Give me QuakeII or Doom with slightly better Graphics and Ai and im sold.
Even Id realised the failure with jumping the Gap. They tend to improve one main area per game generation/cycle

I think it's generous to suggest they ever had any intention of producing anything. 12 years paid time for doing nothing is a pretty good deal.

They should have finished the version from which we have seen the trailer in 2001, who cares if there was a better engine.

I played Duke 3D a lot even after release of Quake 1 wich had a engine with great potential but had a boring enviroment and only a few monsters. You can polish the game even after release, and resell it again.

And Serious Sam is a good example with their HD version.

TBH it will be too little to late now what with stuff these days Duke Nukem is the only character that would sell the game to the die hards and what with characters like Serious Sam trying to steal their thunder it will only be a matter of time till Duke Nukem will be remembered as a character of the 90's :s

Wow, maybe I should change my flight sim's name to the Duke Nukem Flight Engine. :(

I remember playing Duke Nukem 3D. Yeah it was awesome. Feature Creep is a horrible thing...and apparently very expensive.

Basically its another advert for a TODO list for the entire project that you stick to, DNF would have been out in 2001 if they done that heck the 2001 Unreal engine demo was amazing and I was really looking forward to it then this happens :s

Any more news on a release date, other than the "first half of 2010" previously announced?

(Just got around to buying C&C Red Alert 3, C&C Tiberium Wars, Universe at War, and World in Conflict during Steams Holiday sale, so I'm good for RTS games for a while... SC2 does look interesting, though...

Starcraft was due for release late 2009, there seems to be silence from Blizzard about a release date. My local games store is non the wiser either.

The trailers look nice, but it does look like a prettier version of the first one with some new characters, abilities etc. And from what I uderstand, it's going to be released as a trilogy will make the total cost ($A) around $300 if you buy them as soon as they are released.

Unlike 3D Realms though, Blizzard has shown in the past that they know how to fold a losing hand - another 6-12 months without a release and I'll be seriously doubting it's going to happen :(

Although that article is off, it seems to suggest that duke was born in 3D under the 3drealms label. -OI NO! i remember the 2d duke games by apogee (pre 3dr). Jill of the jungle and commander keen were the others of note.

With a modern 3D game engine a experienced team could make DNF in a few months. I think 3DRealms wasted too much time on rewriting the game code each time they found a new engine.

The 2001 version they had on the Unreal engine looked like they had a fair bit of content. And a possibility for fun, too. It all went downhill after that version was scrapped though.

Personally, I hope Take Two get the rights to the sources and finish what there was of the 2001 version and release it as a budget game.

I think these guys forgot the first rule of success: You can never be the best if you just copy others. It's not rocket science to make a forecast what computers are able to do three years from now and brainstorm things what could be done with all this processing power. Things that were impossible earlier.

Lack of management skills killed the Duke.

As a professional programmer myself, I can well understand continual fundamental design changes killing any possible enthusiasm and productivity on the project. i.e.

If not a game at last, just make an asset lib and a lesson in pm outa it.
